I hope you don't mind my pointing you towards the blog post I made about Shared Space back in 2008. We have it near here, and it is not liked. Objections come from many quarters including cyclists, parents groups, elderly people and the blind. You can read more here.
Since writing that piece, I now have a commute which takes me right past the Shared Space in Haren. Like most people, I avoid it.
